WC: to the germans
Germany gets ready for the victory in the team category: men and women are ahead of every other team. Now the fight is on to see who will go home with the coveted individual world titles
(08/24/07)
back
The third and final day of competition for the team category is pointing towards Germany. Now even the women’s team has reached the top position of the classifications. In one last round the German women managed to finish with 557 strokes, 17 less then Austria, which now occupies second place and coming in third are the Swedish women with 561 strokes. Italy finds itself in sixth place with 584 strokes. And it seems the Germans want to redo the defeat in last years football world championships as both the women and men’s teams are leading in the championships.

From one side the fight for first place is nearly over, as for the men’s category it is already decided. The Italians, who were in third at the end of the day yesterday, have since slid down to fifth place with a 6 stroke difference from the Swiss (fourth) and a seven stroke difference from the Austrians who now occupy the third position on the podium. The situation for the Swedish men is a bit more relaxed as they have conquered the second place, behind Germany with 34 strokes. However, at this point there are to be three more rounds played and the positions can still be re-written.
The qualifications for the individuals planned for Saturday is starting to be outlined. For the men, in the first 10 positions (the top 32 men will qualify) there are two Italians, four Germans, 2 Austrians and one Swedish. This is the individual male classification at three rounds from the end of the competitions: Harald Erlbruch (GERMANY) 140 strokes; Daniel Klosek (GERMANY) 144 strokes; Marco Templin (GERMANY) 146 strokes; Francesco Leuci (ITALY) 147 strokes; Vitus Spescha (SWITZERLAND ) 147 strokes; Christian Freilach (AUSTRIA) 148 strokes; Marco Balzer (GERMANY) 151 strokes; Marcus Larsson (SWEDEN) 151 strokes; Rudy Giroldini (ITALY) 151 strokes; Philipp Albrechtsberger (AUSTRIA) 151 strokes.
The situation for the women is even clearer. The only Italian who will vie for a title in the individual competition is Sara Marchiani. The 16 women who will be fighting it out on the minigolf courses for an individual world title are: Sandra Nordin (SWEDEN) 174 strokes; Elisabeth Gruber (Austria) 174; Melanie Blaser (SWITZERLAND) 176; Bianca Oberweg (GERMANY) 177; Nicole Piechotta (GERMANY) 181; Sandra Wicky (SWITZERLAND) 186; Karin Wiklund (SWEDEN) 186; Nastasja Klarenbeek (NETHERLANDS) 187; Nicole Gundert-Greiffendorf (GERMANY) 187; Djana Naklàdalovà (CZECH REPUBLIC) 188; Rebecca Weber (SWITZERLAND) 188; Sara Marchiani (ITALY) 188; Andrea Hackl (AUSTRIA) 189; Tryntsje Schakel (NETHERLANDS) 189; Karoline Karlsson (SWEDEN) 190; Alice Kobish (GERMANY) 191.
