Eighteen holes, eighteen aces
Inauguration of the new miniature course in Canegrate (Milan)
(03/19/07)
back
The eighteen holes of the new miniature course contain pyramids, cones, tunnels and flowers just to name a few of the obstacles that characterize the pitches on this course specially installed by Minigolf Relax Time in Canegrate for the World Championships which will take place this May and August of this year. The construction of this course was a necessity in order for Relax Time to host the international competitions. Following the official rules of the WMF, World Minigolf Federation, the events must include two specialties of the game: a traditional course and another course that is formally recognized by the WMF, in this case the newly installed miniature course.

The pitches are shorter than those of traditional minigolf: a maximum of 6.5 meters in length and 90 centimetres in width with a green of one meter 20 in diameter. The cement pitches, framed with steel, were constructed with diverse obstacles making all 18 holes both unique and difficult at the same time. Every pitch on this miniature course was created to give the professionals a chance to ace every hole (make a hole-in-one) as long as they play with precision down to the smallest millimetre. However, this is not as easy as it sounds if you take into account that everything from the slopes of the pitches to the outside weather can affect a players’ performance. This is something that Massimiliano Ciceri, the coach of the Italian National Minigolf Team, knows only too good, «this particular course- says Ciceri- is rich with hidden dangers and contains new obstacles rendering the course even more difficult. The pitches were mounted on level land without much slope, making some strokes even more complicated by this fact». Ciceri can be seen acing these holes on the official Minigolf 2007 website (to view the video: www.minigolf2007.com/ita/c_nazioni/&page=miniature).

Professionals of all nationalities are now flocking to Relax Time to give this new course a test drive before the actual championships take place in hopes of avoiding any unexpected surprises during the biggest event in the world of minigolf. In fact, last weekend the Italian National Team had two days of intense training in order to discover the secrets of this new course and be duly prepared for the Nations Cup in May and the World Championships in August.
