«It’s the excitement of the nerves in the body when you are playing well and winning – says Swedish Sandra Nordin when describing the aspects that draw her to minigolf- and being able to control the nervousness in high pressure situations». And at 23 years old Nordin can certainly say that she has control over her nerves when competing under pressure, as she has already won medals in many important competitions, including the silver at the 2003 World Championships in Bad Münder, Germany. Nordin took up the sport in 1993 when she was 9 years old as a result of her following in her father’s footsteps, who was already a long-time minigolf player. Only a year after first picking up the club Sandra played in her first Swedish championship at the tender age of 10. No more than four years passed from when Nordin played her first national tournament in Sweden to when she competed in her first international tournament; 1998 marking the year when the young Swede first participated in the European Championships- junior level and went on to win the bronze medal. She also competed in the same international tournament in 2000, where again she placed third on the podium, and in 2002 Sandra competed in the World Championships- junior level and proudly went home with the silver medal in her hands. More recently, Nordin took home the cup of best individual female player at the 2007 edition of the Nations Cup in Canegrate.

Resident of the Swedish city Gothenburg, Nordin belongs to the BGK Jönköping Club where she regularly practices at perfecting her minigolf skills. When not spending time training at her minigolf club Nordin studies occupational therapy, however in the coming months it is likely that Sandra will be busy readying herself in preparation for the upcoming international tournaments to take place at the courses of Relax Time in Canegrate. Nordin’s last win at an international competition on this level was in 2003, and she is surely looking to add the 2007 tournaments to her minigolf resume of wins. Nordin’s recipe to doing well in a competition is «to take one lane at a time and do my best in all situations –recounts the Swede-. I stay in the present and don’t think of the past or future. I play for myself primarily and if I play well then my team will do well». If she follows her own personal philosophy, she just may take home more medals from the 2007 World Championships to add to her collection.
